Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My 1989 530i Auto runs beautifully at speed but when idling it is not smooth and when I pull away after, say, traffic lights it hesitates. This does not happen when I start from cold, only when the engine is up to heat. It has got new plugs, HT leads, distributor and rotor arm. Any ideas?

Could check for any vacuum leaks from hoses. Also MAF sensor , check idle control valve and engine coolant temp sensor .

Many thanks for the info. I checked the vacuum hoses but in doing so I noticed that the cable connecting the HT lead from the coil to the pulse sensor connector has been cut and the individual wires re-soldered and taped(presumably by the person who fitted the new HT leads). Could this be the cause of the rough idling when the engine is hot?
