BMW 5 Series my bmw takes a very slow start in the beginning but when starts running, runs like hell. can you please guide?

Car: BMW 5 Series
Variant: 520i SE Manual Petrol
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
It was working fine but now when i start to drive it does not speed up even engine revs very high but when it gets momentum then it runs like any normal BMW. But the start is very slow and even when i press down the accelerator, it does not catch speed. in fact when it goes up hill, it gets slow. when stopped, i want to check if the problem is with accelerator, i press down the accelerator and engine sounds fine, strong but if i press accelerator too much it starts giving odd smell of burning. It also keeps cutting out and i have to keep my foot on the accelerator. My friend says it`s clutch. but i doubt if its clutch then i should have problems ahile changing geras that i don`t have. gears change very smoothly. Can you please guide me?
thanks.

now be careful with this test please. but doing this will tell you without doubt if your cars clutch has gone or not.

take your car to a slight hill and park facing uphill, pulling your handbrake on hard. make sure theres no other people or cars around, then start your engine select second gear rev the engine to about 3.5000 rpm (revs) leave the hand brake on, and let the clutch pedal fully up as if your where driving away normaly. if the engine stalls/stops then your clutch is ok. if the engine still runs then your friends are correct, and you need a replacement clutch.

what ever you do, dont sit there running the engine for more than a second or two, once the pedal is fully up. or you will destroy what ever is left of your clutch friction plate.

if the clutch is ok, then you have to look at the engine..... but really sounds to me that the clutch is your problem
