Car: BMW 3 Series

The heating has been blowing cold and the engine temperature gauge has been rising into the red. When driving the temp. seems to drop and the heater kicks in, then will start blowing cold again and temperature gauge rises again. ???

ok that would say to me that you have a blockage in the system go to the nearest motor factors and get some engine coolant flush and follow the intructions and this should remove any blockage
