BMW 3 Series right hand indicator flashing twice speed with warning light

Car: BMW 3 Series
Variant: 1.8 se touring
Model Year: 2009
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Lights are an LED cluster. The fault is intermittant. When signalling for a right hand turn the light bulb warning light comes on and there is a audio warning. At the same time the flash repeater lights operates at twice the normal speed. Checked turn signal lights and they are all working but the rear is at twice normal speed. Dealer said that the rear unit can get damp into the unit (£170+ plus fitting) but could not be sure.

Most of the time the unit operates correctly.

Any ideas? Could this be a relay problem or is it the light unit?

Can it not be dried out and sealed to stop this issue,

Thanks for both suggestions regarding checking the earth and seeing if it can be dried out.

The problem is now becomming more frequent. I have checked the operation of the lights when the fault is present. All three right hand turn lights function however the repeater speed is a) very rapid and b) not consistant, by that I mean that the interval between flashes changes several times whilst the malfunction occurs.

Until I can identify what the probable cause is I will be paying for a BMW engineer to investigate a problem that I cannot yet say what are the exact conditions creating the problem.

My thoughts are still with the relay but any other suggestions would be most welcome.

The problem with the rapid flashing also occasionaly shows up when the remote locking is activated when the rapid flashing occurs during the two flashes that confirm that the car has been locked.

I am wondering if the problem is due to a faulty relay and not the actual light units. However since everything in the enging compartment of the BMW 3 series (type E91) is covered up I have no idea where the relays are actually located. Even the location of the battery is not clear without removing any of the plastic coverings.

Can anyone advise
a) where are these relays located and
b) how do I identify which of all of the relays is the one controlling the turn lights (right hand side).

Did you resolve the LED offside indicator problem? I have the identical problem.
Sprayed WD40 offered no improvement.
Pulled and pushed leads no improvement.
