I think the control tap needs replacing but how can I access it as it is behind the gear change linkage and the steering column?

I worked on them in a Leyland dealership but thought the Morris Oxford , Wolseley , Riley and A60 all had the heater valve bolted on to the heater box at the bulkhead in the engine bay . But memory may be playing tricks after all these years . Do remember pulling the heater hoses and joining them together with a piece of 1/2 copper tubing as a temp fix .

Thanks for your reply but the van has a different heater design. The tap is at the back behind the column gear change rods and the steering column. You also need to very small and have 3 hands. Also I have joined the hoses together but the van is very cold.and I can’t see hit it possible to do the job. I have the genuine Austin manual but no help at all .

Being a van explains the difference , we only did the cars . Sorry I cant be of any help . Just a thought , is it not possible to cut a temp flap from inside engine bay to allow you access , done that a few times in problematic situations .
