Audi A4 hesitation between 1800rpm and 2500 rpm

Car: Audi A4
Variant: 1.9tdi Quattro
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My Audi 1.9 tdi quattro hesitates between 1800 rpm and 2500 rpm. After the turbo kicks in it goes very well and below 1800 it seems to run ok.
The temp gauge also varies between 70 degrees and 90 degrees. It's had a new Air Mass Meter fitted, fuel filter and had the fuel system flushed. The mechanic said that he thought the intercooler could do with flushing.
Any ideas please?

sounds like you have a possible air leak. intercooler hoses are known for perishing or popping off causing a lack of power. try looking at that first. hope this helps
