Audi A4 engine starting problems

Car: Audi A4
Variant: 1.8 SE
Model Year: 1995
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, when i turn the ignition key the engine catches and the revs go up as they do, then no matter how much you put the excelerator down the engine cuts/stalls. i start the car 10- 15 times every time i get in the, eventually the engine starts after after these many attempts and runs fine, it ticks over great. I put redex in the tank a couple of days ago but still no joy. Any ideas? thanks. Stu

i suspect the idle control valve is faulty.
first you need to find out if you have single point injection or multi-point injection.
if it the single point injection,( glorified carb )then replacement of the unit is advised. if a multi-point system then i would look into the throttle body. also replace unit. before going to these lengths you should have the car disgnostic codes read to see if the management side is ok. it also could only be an air leak.hope this helps!!
