Alfa Romeo GT gt drinking oil

Car: Alfa Romeo GT
Variant: petrol
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
My GT is absolutely guzzling the oil at the moment. I'm going through a litre every 10 days/ fortnight or so... the "low oli pressure" light comes on and I pull over - sure enough, the oil is bone dry.

There are no drips on the driveway and there's no nasty coloured smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Any ideas?

I spoke to the dealer about this and they seem to think that it's reasonable for a GT to drink 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles. As I'm doing about 3k miles a month at the moment, I suppose that adds up.

A bit thirsty though, that's a £30 a month habit :-(
