I took my car in for a timing belt change. 6 weeks later the engine is totalled. Now - could be just a timing matter and the fault was waiting to happen - these things are difficult to prove, but after 5 years trouble free motoring, and the fact that it was a part they reinstalled that was the root cause of the damage, and other parts they fitted failed, it's a bit of a coincidence. You would hope that at least there should be some sort of acknowledgement and willingness to help, especially since I'm now faced with a 4 figure bill to fix the engine. Not a bit. I wrote an email with a letter of complaint attached as directed by RAC legal, and the response I got was 'I don't read emails' when I phoned. How unprofessional is that? Further warning signs (with the benefit of hindsight of course) : they are not associated with any Motor Trading Standard or code of good practice that I can see, so you're relying on them for goodwill with little or no recourse in the event of dispute. There's other garages in the area that have signed up to various codes, so I'd steer clear of this one.
