Skoda Roomster

Somewhat quirky in appearance but a very useful car. Lots of space in the back and even more when you remove the rear Seats. The 1600 16 valve engine delivers very smooth power through a Tiptronic Gear box. The gear stick gives two automatic driving ranges, one of them being sports mode. Move the stick to the left and you can go manual. Changes are made by nudging the stick forwards or backwards. There is no clutch. Simply revert to Automatic as you stop. The box is a 6 speed box, but when in sports mode this is reduced to a 5 speed box and the same when in Tiptronic mode.

Acceloration is excellent and when in sports mode very quick. Trying hard on economy by driving gentle I have got as high as 50 mpg but about 44 is more the norm. This is only acchieved on longish runs. On short runs the automatic choke reduces the economy a lot. If you are simply driving to the shops and back you will only get about 25 mpg.

Cornering is good and the feel excellent. I like this car a lot, it is the smallest car I have had. Most of my cars have been 2.5 cc and 3.5 cc. I've stopped being a boy racer and the Automatic gear box is a joy to use. My main complaint is the size if the digits on the information panel between the speedo and the rev counter. The information given can be changed by a small switch on the stalk that controls the wipers. It will show average fuel consumption current fuel consumption, Temperature average speed distance to go on fuel available and more

i love the car, i drive a roomster 1600 auto tiptronic petrol 2007.My only real problem that i am having is my front electric windows have stopped working and at the moment even the garage are baffled as to what the problem is. Is this an appropiate site to ask for help.regards neil

I have driven my Roomster 2 1.4 TDI for nearly 59,000 miles (56 plate). I bought this for the huge luggage capacity and have not been disappointed. This car is comfortable and easy to drive, cheap to run, brilliant on my recent holidays in Wales and Yorkshire went up hills as if they were flat! Cannot decide whether to trade in for a new one or not on it's 3rd birthday.
