I have the 2.2 version and am very happy with it. after 18 months ownership from new and 26k on the clock. I have never owned an Alfa before so was somewhat apprehensive but would definitely recommend.
I have had one problem - overheating which turned out to be a faulty hose. The dealership in Guildford were excellent took the car in, returned it all sorted within day or so, very professional and everything working fine now.
Re the back seats : The main problem is the leg room, the seats themselves are fine highbacked and deep, as long as the front driver and passenger don't mind pulling seat forward a bit they're fine.
Boot is massive for type of car.
Front driver headroom fine when you spend some time adjusting seat.
Positives - Looks superb, Motorway cruising is excellent plenty of power 60+. Inside quality is excellent no electrics problems yet - touch wood
Negs - Not too quick off the lights unless you really want to work it.
One converted Alfa owner. Go on, you only live once.

Have a 3.2V6 4WD - unbelievable and the best quality Alfa ever. As you would expect, handling and roadholding are excellent. The build quality is highly impressive and I would say at least matches BMW quality. Ride is very good I have done driven this car every week on a London to Brussels trip and back for 3 years and always amazed how effortless everything is. One negative and two suggestions: rear seats are cramped - good for teenagers max; careful with the parcel shelf, if you overload the boot and slam the tailgate down like I did then break the plastic clips - they are cheap to replace but maybe they could be stronger and...I'd like to have a GTA version....
There are two cars that I compare to this:
1. Audi TT: Basically no comparison, the TT does not do it for me. Rear seats are a joke and make the Alfa's look huge. TT is a two seater masquerading as a 2 + 2. Jelly mould shape is now so common - forget it.
2. A strange one: Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo - these were rare to start with but if you can find a low mileage one buy it and keep it. Incredible value for money, tons of performance and seats 4 adults easily. A performance beast in comparison to the Alfa's more restrained power - I'd like both actually.
If second hand prices drop like Alfas have done in the past then grab a bargain because you wont be disappointed.
